Cano Island Snorkeling Tour
Description
Our tour to Cano Island combines Cano Island (Isla de Cano) and Violines Island, two locations of significant archaeological importance in Costa Rica. Cano Island is an ancient burial site, and evidence of Cano Island's history is the incredible stone spheres. Perfect round and believed to be hand carved.
Located 10 miles offshore from the Osa Peninsula, Cano Island is a tropical paradise filled with white-sand, palm-lined beaches, and impressive coral reefs. Cano Island is believed to have been forward over 50 million years ago when tectonic plates shifted causing the island to emerge.
The real beauty of Cano Island can is the most beautiful underwater. Cao Island's tranquil waters are some of the bluest in the country and are home to a spectacular variety of stunning marine flora and fauna as well as beautiful coral reefs.
At the protected inshore reef, the visibility is commonly 20 ft or more, the snorkeling here is excellent. Snorkelers have the chance to spot parrotfish, surgeonfish, barberfish, eels, snapper, puffers, barracudas, turtles, and manta rays. Further offshore from Cano Island visitors often spot whales and bottleneck dolphins.
After the guided snorkel tour, you'll head to Violines Island. The boat ride lasts about 30 minutes. Once at Violines you will enjoy a freshly prepared lunch. The rest of your time here can be spent swimming in the bay or relaxing on the beach.
The boat will head back to Uvita around 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. Along the way, you'll pass one of the most extensive protected mangrove forests in Central America.
