Arenal Volcano & Tabacon Hot Springs
Description
Arenal Volcano is an active volcano 90 km northwest of the capital city of Costa Rica in the Arenal Volcano National Park. Arenal Volcano is one of the seven historically active volcanoes in Costa Rica. Arenal Volcano was considered to be doormat until an unexpected eruption in 1968 destroying the small town of Tabacon. Due to the eruption 2 more crates were formed, although only one remains today famously filled with aqua blue water.
The Arenal Volcano National Park is home to 75% of the total 850 species of birds that have been identified in Costa Rica. Just as diverse in wildlife sloths, white-faced capuchin monkeys, coati, deer and snakes, including the infamous fer-de-lance, parrot snake and boa constrictor can be found here.
The volcano's geothermal activity heats dozens of underground water flumes, creating a large number of hot springs. The Springs of Tabacon are indulgent, stress relieving and the perfect way to end the day in Arenal. Tabacon Hot Springs consists of natural in-river pools, waterfalls, and pools throughout the resort.
At The Arenal Botanical Gardens you'll find some 2,500 species of tropical plants. Many are rare, including several types of bromeliads, orchids, ferns and roses. Butterflies and birds flit through the gardens, pausing to perch in a tree or rest on a flower.
