Itinerary
Day 1 — San Jose
A warm and sunny welcome to Costa Rica! Your flight arrives at Juan Santamaría International Airport. After passing through immigration and customs, you will meet one of our local representatives and spend your first night the metropolitan area of San Jose. Get some rest, tomorrow is an adventurous day!
Day 2 — Tortuguero
Begin early morning your transfer from San Jose to Tortuguero (Turtles) National Park. The area protected by Tortuguero National Park was only volcanic islands until sediments from the interior mountains filled in the spaces and formed a network of marshy islands.
Sand piled up where the river deposited land met the sea, and the turtle nesting beaches of Tortuguero formed.
The exceptionally high rainfall, and rich environment where the freshwater meets the sea makes the beaches, canals, lagoons and wetlands of Tortuguero areas of exceptional biodiversity and opportunity for nature lovers.
Tonight, enjoy your stay in the beautiful Mawamba lodge.
Day 3 — Tortuguero
Today enjoy one more day and night at the Mawamba Lodge. In the evening enjoy the main attraction in Tortuguero, the turtle nesting grounds.
Green Sea Turtles, leatherback and Hawksbill turtles nest on the beaches here. Green Sea Turtles neared extinction due to hunting of the adults for meat turtle soup, and poaching of eggs for their alleged aphrodisiac qualities.
During the day, you may see some turtles laying eggs however the majority of the arrivals occur at night. During the night tour, you will be accompanied by a professional guide to view the turtles nesting. No visitors are allowed on the beach after 6 pm without a professional guide. This protects the environment and the tranquility of this very unique area of Costa Rica.
Day 4 — Arenal
After breakfast, we head back through the canals headed for Arenal Costa Rica. Arenal is located in the town of La Fortuna, home to possibly the most notorious volcano in Costa Rica. Arenal Volcano was the most active volcano in Costa Rica up until 2010, perfectly coned shaped, a view you will never forget.
Day 5 — Arenal
Today enjoy a hike guided by our professional eco guide through 1.9 km to the beautiful Arenal Waterfall. After a refreshing swim hike, back for lunch. We finish our day at the Tabacon Hot springs where you will be able to relax and rejuvenate in mineral rich water flowing straight from the veins of the Volcano. Enjoy a typical dinner at Tabacon.
Day 6 — Monteverde
Travelling North today you will be journeying to experience the rarest ecosystem in the world. The Cloud Forests of Monteverde, an area where humidity no longer exists and a cool breeze floats in. Enjoy your trip to the most fascinating wildlife sanctuaries in Costa Rica.
Day 7 — Monteverde
Today we will be exploring the cloud forests guide by our eco-guides. Start on the walkways which is a combination of trails and seven bridges where you will have the opportunity to explore all levels of the cloud forest. Admire the boundless diversity of the flora and fauna.
Day 8 — Tamarindo
Today we will be departing early morning from Monteverde to the famous beach town of Tamarindo. At one time Tamarindo was a quiet surf and fishing spot. Today Tamarindo has evolved to be the area’s most developed and accessible tourist town. Despite the developing areas in and around Tamarindo, the town has managed to keep a laid-back surfer vibe.
As a regional hub, Tamarindo offers a wide-range of extensive services to visitors including sport fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, and horseback riding. Liberia is a close 50 kilometers (31 mi) for visitors exciting through this hub.
Day 9 — Tamarindo
Enjoy a day on the water on a catamaran departing from the bay of Tamarindo. Enjoy a fresh and locally prepared lunch, snorkeling, and dolphin sightings.
Day 10 — Tamarindo
Today is your day to enjoy your last day in Costa Rica! Take a free day to sit back and relax on the long beaches in Tamarindo or take part in one of our many optional tours in the Tamarindo area.
Day 11 — San Jose
We wish you a safe and pleasant journey home, we hope you experienced a little Pura Vida on your vacation and hope to see you again soon!
