Itinerary
Day 1 — San Jose
A warm and sunny welcome to Costa Rica! Your flight arrives at Juan Santamaría International Airport. After passing through immigration and customs, you will meet one of our local representatives and spend your first night the metropolitan area of San Jose. Get some rest, tomorrow is an adventurous day!
Day 2 — Tortuguero
Begin early morning your transfer from San Jose to Tortuguero (Turtles) National Park. The area protected by Tortuguero National Park was only volcanic islands until sediments from the interior mountains filled in the spaces and formed a network of marshy islands.
Sand piled up where the river deposited land met the sea, and the turtle nesting beaches of Tortuguero formed.
The exceptionally high rainfall, and rich environment where the freshwater meets the sea makes the beaches, canals, lagoons and wetlands of Tortuguero areas of exceptional biodiversity and opportunity for nature lovers.
Tonight, enjoy your stay in the beautiful Mawamba lodge.
Day 3 — Tortuguero
Today enjoy one more day and night at the Mawamba Lodge. In the evening enjoy the main attraction in Tortuguero, the turtle nesting grounds.
Green Sea Turtles, leatherback and Hawksbill turtles nest on the beaches here. Green Sea Turtles neared extinction due to hunting of the adults for meat turtle soup, and poaching of eggs for their alleged aphrodisiac qualities.
During the day, you may see some turtles laying eggs however the majority of the arrivals occur at night. During the night tour, you will be accompanied by a professional guide to view the turtles nesting. No visitors are allowed on the beach after 6 pm without a professional guide. This protects the environment and the tranquility of this very unique area of Costa Rica.
Day 4 — Arenal
After breakfast, we head back through the canals headed for the volcano lodge in Arenal. Arenal is most notably home to the Arenal Volcano and incredible hot spring spas.
Day 5 — Arenal
Today you will experience the most incredible activities in the Arenal area. Start with a 1.9-mile hike across suspension bridges to the beautiful La Fortuna Waterfall. Enjoy a dip in the falls and a typical Costa Rican Lunch. We then continue on to the most critically acclaimed hot springs in this area, Tabacon.
Relax and rejuvenate in the hot springs, pools and enjoy a dinner buffet.
Day 6 — Monteverde
Today we depart Arenal to discover one of the richest ecosytems in the world. The Monteverde Cloud forest is a unique protected area – only 1% of the world’s forests are cloud forests!
Day 7 — Monteverde
Today you will be taking part in a thrilling zip line circuit located in the cloud forest in Monteverde. Your tour will begin by riding an open-air gondola from the ground to the heights where you’ll be dropped off at an observation area for fantastic views. From this area, you will start riding down on a zip line track stretching across canyons and in between treetops, the exhilarating adventure of zip lining down the mountainside begins; ultimately returning you to the starting point at the main building.
Sky Treks has a total of 8 zip lines, the longest spans 2460 ft, and the highest cable is 328 ft. Tour lasts roughly 2 hours. You will have the evening to take part in additional tours and activites.
Day 8 — Manuel Antonio
Today we will be departing from Monteverde travelling along the Pacific coast through Tarcoles (famous for the highest concentration of crocodiles per km in the world), Jaco, Quepos to reach Manuel Antonio. Manuel Antonio is famous for being the first large tourist destination in Costa Rica. Home to stunning views, Manuel Antonio National Parks and a huge organic/yoga/well living movement.
Day 9 — Manuel Antonio
Our professional guide will be taking you into the Manuel Antonio National Park to view the enormous variety of wildlife including tons of Monkeys. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach within the park and hike back for a delicious local lunch.
Day 10 — Manuel Antonio
Today is your last day in Costa Rica, sit back, relax or do some local souvenir shopping. Also, there are plenty of unique and exciting optional excursions in this area.
Day 11 — San Jose
Depart early am for the airport and flight home. We home you experienced what Pura Vida is all about!
